Stand Deviation and Range

Today we learnt....“The square root of the quotient between the sum of all x subtract x bar squared divded by n”.
We were shown how to calculate the standard deviation and range in a set of numbers.
Population Standard Deviation- the measure of variability within a data set.
Range- is also a measure of variability
We used kindergarten students and grad students as a sample.

Today we got a little distracted before we did mental math. Mr. Maxs confirmed he has a brother and showed us his house on google earth. We then looked up more things and got back on track to mental math. We are working on our exercises 3 and 4.

Stamps Game

Today we did notes on Pathways and practiced the first question ( with Jason and Penelope ). We took notes on F.C.P. and we were supposed to do Factorial Notation but were doing that tomorrow. One of Mr. Maxs examples was: Calculate the number of ways to enter and exit the arena during a hockey game.
a) first period
ways in= 1
ways out=5
Therefore there are 5 ways in and out of the building.
b) third period
ways in=5
ways out=5
Therefore there are 25 ways in and out of the building.

We did notes on pathways, and how many ways you can get to the dentist office. Then we got questions, excercise 1-6.

Friday, November 13, 2009

Today Mr.Max called us up to show him excercise 1-2. We also had to tell him a plan for our Vector projects. I am not too sure what I am going to do yet, but its due on the 27th. Today i'm just going to work on excercise 3.

We did not do mental math today. We work on our questions are we must have excercise 1, 2 and one question on 3 complete for mondays class.

Wednesday, November 4, 2009

We went to a grad meeting then came back and took notes on triangle methods. Then Mr. Max showed us how to use Euklid, for the people who didn't know.

Driveway

Questions on "Driveway" were due today, Mr. Max came around and looked at it. Then he showed us how to do it on excel. The question seemed a lot more complicated on excel.
"You have to design a template to come up with a reasonable solution."- Mr. Maksymchuk.
We have the picnic table question for tomorrow.

Media

Today we had a big discussion on whether or not students like us have anything to do with media. Then we watched some video Mr. Max was pretty pumped to show us. Apparently teens send over 2000 txt msgs a month. I personally think that number should be higher. Then we made a facebook group for math class with everyone in it.

Monday, October 26, 2009

Today we got tests back and the answer keys as well. We did an assignment which is due for homework check tomorrow. Question B on page 6 of 6. The question was pretty easy actually.. I understood it.

Moga Madness is on friday

Thursday, October 22, 2009

We got assigned assignment 2, question 1 to finish before 10:30 today. Mr. Max explained to us why cakes are made in tubular pans. The reason being that the air gets in through the middle to cook it. We went over the tile questions and Mr. Max showed us how to do it.
1. 30x30 squares
2.30x25cm

I should probably pay a little more attention in class when we are taking down notes. Although it is hard to pay attention and write down the notes at the same time, maybe I will just look at the notes on the network drive instead.

Oct. 15/09

Today we did mental math. We went over question seven in our booklet which we used two methods. Calculator and excel. We had no assignments for today just to update our blogs.

Interest Formula

We made a spreadsheet to schedule our payments on the corvette. We used the simple interest formula, which is Interest=(p)(r)(t). P=principal R=rate T=time. We also got questions to do as a review.

Oct.1

Mr. Max showed us how to do question seven in the Sequences Review questions. It helped me understand the question when Mr. Max did it, but he makes it look so easy then when you go to do it yourself you don't understand it. It makes me frustrated. We need to pick five out of many questions which are most likely due on Monday.

Sept.29

Today we did mental math and, then learnt a new lesson about sequences and series. Mr. Max had us look up the def Fractal for our own benefit. Fractal- a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be split into parts, each of which is a reduced-size copy of the whole. Then we got shown Sierpinkski's triangle, which happens to be "famous". Our first practice question we did was number nine in the Sequences Review Questions.

Assembly

Today everyone (but me) was supposed to write their Matricies test, but we got excused out of class to go to an assembly that talked about the Manitoba Games. After that, we all came back to class and Mr. Max informed everyone that they can start writing the first two pages of their test and then write the rest on monday. We spent the rest of the class catching up on assignments, studying and making our cheat sheets, if we didn't write today!

Thursday, September 24, 2009

Today we did a test review and Mr.Max informed me that I don't have to write the test for about a week considering I wasn't here for a week. I'm pretty happy about that because I need to learn lesson 6-8 still before I write the test.
